In this post we explain a training we recently conducted. It was intended for maintenance and laboratory personnel of a power plant. At their facilities, we were able to clarify all their doubts on the handling and maintenance of SWAN analyzers.
Matelco engineers presented their expertise in pure water analyzers in the water-steam cycle of the power plant.

In the following graph we can see the water-steam cycle. The system responsible for transferring the heat, from the boiler or exchanger, to the steam turbine. All this passing through its subsequent condensation to return to the equipment that adds heat and finally closing the cycle represented.
In power plants it is common for problems to arise in the performance of the water-steam circuit. These are closely related to the accumulation of deposits or scale and corrosion. For this reason, proper chemical control of the boiler water is crucial. Monitoring various parameters such as oxygen, pH, salts (conductivity) and metals.
More specifically, in this training, the operation and operation of the oxygen, sodium and silica analyzers were thoroughly discussed.
How do our pure water analyzers work?
1# Oxygen analyzer: this indicator must be kept at a very low concentration (ppb) to avoid corrosion problems.
2# Sodium analyzer: provides a very fast, selective and extremely sensitive means of detecting impurities. It is the first cation to pass in a demineralization line.
3# Silica (SiO2) analyzer: it is the most important parameter in steam samples, since it tends to deposit on turbine blades and can destabilize and damage them.
During the training, the Matelco team explained in detail to the attendees the measurement principle, the measurement cycle and how to perform the necessary commissioning and maintenance of each analyzer.
The power plant personnel had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify all their doubts regarding these analyzers. They were also able to participate in field practices that took place at the end of the training day.
