Continuous monitoring of solids flowing in a pipeline. Knowledge of the percentage of suspended solids to determine the solids mass flow rate.

SS. use ultrasound attenuation to measure the concentration of sludge and slurries that are too thick for optical methods. They operate in the middle zone between turbidity meters and nuclear density meters.
