In addition to turbidity, it allows the measurement of colors and the content of suspended solids in fluids. At Matelco we believe that turbidity measurement is essential to ensure an optimal level of quality and industrial process control in water analysis , wastewater treatment or product loss detection in the dairy industry.

Satron’s optical turbidity sensor VO-m allows the detection of spillage peaks of products such as milks or creams at the inlet of the industrial wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). In this location, a quick response, in the case of product spillage, can save your company significant costs in a matter of seconds.

How do our VO-m optical sensors work?

In the specific case of milk discharge, the measurement of our optical sensor is associated with the chemical oxygen demand, COD, correlated to the turbidity of the sample. The optical sensor also measures the temperature, so that an accidental spill of cold milk causes a sudden drop in temperature.

In the following graph our optical sensor has been calibrated with samples from 6 customers from 0 to 20,000 ppm (4 to 20mA) COD and installed in-line at the inlet of the WWTP. When our Satron sensor detects a value equal to or higher than 6,000 ppm, an alarm is triggered and this signal allows corrective actions to be taken.

This graph reflects the behavior recorded by our Satron VO-m optical sensor during a single day.

The above graph clearly shows the peak where there is an increase in COD and the decrease in process temperature. This measurement determines the peak discharge of the dairy product, without the need to install a temperature meter, because our sensor already has it in its standard installation and can be monitored with a second analog output.

The key advantages of our optical sensor

In addition to being a key advantage in terms of savings in product loss, with this technological solution your company can be completely sure of having a discharge that complies with local environmental regulations, avoiding an increase in treatment costs that may result from legal non-compliance.

The main technical characteristics of our optical sensor for the determination of turbidity in suspended solids and/or colors in liquids:

1# Uses the principle of back scattering or scattered light measurement operation.
2# Configuration and calibration can be performed through the same sensor interface that can be connected via a PC or using the HART Protocol.
3# A 24Vdc, 3-wire operating voltage is required to power the sensor.
4# The output signal is 4-20 mA (3-wire) with HART signal protocol.
5# The maximum pressure it registers is 20 bar (tested up to 30 bar).
6# The measuring range is 0-1,000-5,000 FTU.
7# It has EHDEG and A3 Hygienic Certificate.
8# Allows single calibration per user (from 2 to 16 points) and you can store up to 4 different calibrations in the same device.
9# Datalogger with integrated clock (1 measurement/min = 2 months).

In this video you can see a graphic example of the connection of our Satron VO-m optical sensor:

To learn more about ourSatron VO-m optical sensor you can consult our experts in the contact section so that we can propose you the most suitable solution.

Our optical VO-m sensor from Satron is a technological solution suitable for the measurement of different liquids.
