In this way, the manufacturer can calibrate the instrument according to the application. Without doing these preliminary steps, inaccuracies in the flow rate may occur.<\/p>\n<p>During calibration, a specific amount of gas flowing through the sensor is measured at the flow bench by the manufacturer. This process is repeated several times over the operating range to determine the relationship between the mass flow rate and the signal for the gas and the sensor under calibration.<\/p>\n<h3>Points to consider:<\/h3>\n<h4>Pipe size<\/h4>\n<p>check the pipe size at the installation site, the pipe thickness and the maximum gas velocity. This information should be transmitted to the manufacturer for optimal calibration.<\/p>\n<h4>Gas composition<\/h4>\n<p>it is essential to calibrate the meter with the gas that the end user will use since each gas has different thermal properties. Furthermore, any change in the composition of the gas will generate incorrect results. While some gases are pure, such as nitrogen or argon, others, such as biogas, consist of a mixture of gases. In the latter case, it is important to have both methane and CO2 content. This information must also be transmitted to the manufacturer for a proper calibration.<\/p>\n<h4>3.- Wet gas<\/h4>\n<p>if there is moisture or particles in the gas, the installation must be properly modified to prevent any condensate from reaching the sensor. The main principle of thermal dispersion mass flowmeters involves heat transfer caused by gas flow. Condensed moisture in the gas that comes in contact with the heated sensor rapidly increases heat transfer, and the flowmeter responds with a spike, giving an inaccurate flow measurement.<\/p>\n<p>The following steps can help solve problems with wet gases when measuring with thermal dispersion mass flowmeters:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a) Tilt the sensor 45 degrees in the pipe so that if condensation occurs on the pipe wall, gravity itself will pull the condensation away from the sensor.<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2976 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.matelco.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/alineacion-sensor-de-flujo-300x207.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"207\"><\/li>\n<li>b) When a condensate separation tank is used, the condensate accumulates at the bottom separated from the gas. In this case, the gas flows through the vessel slowing down and where it makes a change of direction. Gravity causes the condensate to fall as the gas rises and flows out, removing moisture from the gas.<\/li>\n<li>c) In some cases, a heated tape may be applied to the outside surface of the pipe to prevent condensation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>4.- Straight sections above<\/h4>\n<p>the location of the meter installation is crucial. Disturbances adversely affect the flow profile of the gas flow. The more disturbances above, the more straight runs of pipe will be needed to achieve the required flow profile.<\/p>\n<h4>5.- Insertion depth<\/h4>\n<p>The sensor probe of Sierra mass flowmeters should be in the center of the pipe because the highest flow velocity will be detected as far away from the pipe walls as possible.
